Background

The Bureau of Industry and Security has announced an expansion of the Section 232 additional tariffs of 25 percent on aluminum derivative products.

Effective with respect to products entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after 12:01 a.m. EDT on April 4, these tariffs will apply to (1) HTSUS 7612.90.10 (empty aluminum cans) and (2) HTSUS 2203.00.00 (beer).

BIS notes that importers are required to report to U.S. Customs and Border Protection the primary country of smelt, secondary country of smelt, and country of cast on imports of all aluminum articles subject to the Section 232 tariffs for aluminum and aluminum derivatives.

ST&R offers a three-pronged approach to avoiding, mitigating, and/or recovering these and other tariffs. For more information on which of these strategies might be most effective for your business, please contact ST&R.
