MIKA M. McLAFFERTY is a Member of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg and is based in New York. She assists clients with a wide range of import compliance issues, including classification, valuation (including first sale), marking/origin inquiries, labeling, antidumping scope inquiries, free trade agreements inquiries, and other government agency requirements. She has spent considerable time helping clients better understand the application of Section 301, Section 232, and IEEPA tariffs.
Additionally, Ms. McLafferty has helped clients perform compliance reviews, respond to CF-28s and -29s, respond to seizure and penalty notices, file and perfect prior disclosures, conduct line reviews, and participate in audits. She has also guided clients through the development and implementation of internal compliance and duty savings programs, the filing of protests and prior disclosures, the requesting of binding rulings, and the pursuit of tariff exclusions. Her work as a customs and trade attorney for close to two decades has led to millions of dollars in duty refunds for importers of various product categories.
Prior to joining ST&R, Ms. McLafferty served for more than a decade as Counsel with another international trade law firm, where she represented domestic and multinational companies in connection with various customs and trade matters.
Ms. McLafferty holds a J.D. from St. Johns University School of Law and a B.S. (magna cum laude) in communications from Florida State University. She has been admitted to the bar in New York state and is a member of the New York Bar Association. She is conversant in Spanish.
