Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., announced today that Michael Jackson has joined the firm as a member based in the Los Angeles/San Diego region. Jackson brings more than two decades of global experience advising importers, exporters, and the trade community on complex customs and global compliance matters.
“ST&R has undertaken an unprecedented effort to expand its resources and footprint to meet increasingly complex client needs,” said Lenny Feldman, Managing Partner, Operating Committee for ST&R. “Michael’s extensive experience in customs and trade compliance and enforcement will be a tremendous addition to that effort, and he will strengthen the firm’s presence in some of the country’s biggest hubs for ocean- and land-based trade.”
At ST&R, Jackson will focus on helping clients navigate U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements; mitigate risk in classification, valuation, origin, and marking; and respond to CBP investigations, penalties, and seizures. He will also provide strategic guidance on surety bond issues and support customs brokers and freight forwarders with errors and omissions and other insurance mechanisms. Jackson also bolsters the firm’s growing export practice, which advises exporters on compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations as well as economic sanctions programs.
Before joining ST&R, Jackson practiced for more than 20 years with a Southern California law firm. He holds a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a J.D. from Whittier Law School. He is admitted to the California bar and the U.S. Court of International Trade, where he has managed cases involving surety bond issues.
Jackson is active in the professional community, serving as chair-elect of the Orange County Bar Association’s International Law Section and advisor to Women In Trade Orange County. He also participates in the Los Angeles Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and the Foreign Trade Association. He can be reached at mjackson@strtrade.com or (949) 816-0670.
