Background

The State Department’s Defense Trade Advisory Group is seeking applications for membership. All applications must be postmarked no later than April 3.

The DTAG provides the department with a formal channel for regular consultation and coordination with U.S. private sector defense exporters and other defense industry specialists on issues involving U.S. laws, policies, and regulations for exports and transfers of defense articles, including technical data, and defense services. Major topics addressed by the DTAG include (1) policy issues on foreign military sales, defense trade, and technology transfer, (2) regulatory and licensing procedures applicable to defense articles and services, (3) technical issues involving the U.S. Munitions List, and (4) questions related to the implementation of the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Applications may be submitted by subject matter experts, including from the U.S. defense industry, relevant trade and labor associations, and academic and foundation personnel. All DTAG members must be U.S. citizens and are expected to understand and advise State on complex issues related to defense trade and industrial competitiveness.
