The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a direct final rule removing two rules concerning infant bouncer seats and stationary activity centers that it says are now obsolete because those products are subject to newer, more comprehensive mandatory safety standards. The CPSC emphasizes that this rule does not eliminate or reduce those newer standards but instead is designed to improve regulatory clarity for manufacturers, testing laboratories, regulators, and the public.
This rule will be effective as of Sept. 21 unless the CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by Aug. 21.
