The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which takes effect July 1, reflects significant changes to the labor provisions in U.S. free trade agreements and adds several new mechanisms. For example, the USMCA allows on-site verification visits in all three parties and establishes a new rapid response mechanism to ensure a speedy response to labor violation allegations. The USMCA implementing bill also establishes a new U.S. Interagency Labor Committee for Monitoring and Enforcement, which was created in April.
