The Department of State will conduct an open meeting July 12 in Washington, D.C., to prepare for the 67th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Technical Cooperation Committee to be held July 17-19, as well as the 118th session of the IMO Council to be held July 24-28. Members of the public who plan to attend this meeting should contact State no later than July 5.

Agenda items to be considered at the July 17-19 session include work of other bodies and organizations, integrated technical cooperation program, financing of the ITCP, the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, partnerships, voluntary IMO member state audit scheme and IMO member states audit scheme, capacity building, global maritime training institutions, impact assessment exercise, development of a new strategic framework for the organization for 2018-2023, application of the committee’s guidelines, work program, election of chairman and vice-chairman for 2018, and amendment of the committee rules of procedure.

Agenda items to be considered at the July 24-28 session include report of the secretary-general on credentials; strategy, planning, and reform; resource management; results-based budget for 2018-2019; IMO member state audit scheme; consideration of the reports of the Facilitation, Legal, Maritime Safety, and Technical Cooperation committees; Technical Cooperation Fund; World Maritime University; IMO International Maritime Law Institute; protection of vital shipping lanes; principles to be considered in the review of existing requirements and the development of new requirements; assembly matters; external relations; report on the status of the convention and membership of the organization; report on the status of conventions and other multilateral instruments in respect of which the organization performs functions; and place, date, and duration of the next two sessions of the Council and substantive items for inclusion in the provisional agendas for the next two sessions of the Council.
