Food Trade Standard-Setting Activities

The Department of Agriculture has issued a notice of the sanitary and phytosanitary standard-setting activities of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the periods June 21, 2019, to May 31, 2020, and June 1, 2020, through May 31, 2021. USDA is requesting public comments on standards under consideration as well as recommendations for new standards.

Codex is the principal international organization for establishing standards for food. Through the adoption of food standards, codes of practice, and other guidelines developed by its committees and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments, Codex seeks to ensure fair trade practices in the food trade, protect the health of consumers, and promote coordination of food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
