The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 5.25 billion square meter equivalents in April, up 9.6 percent from March and 5.7 percent from April 2018. Textile imports totaled 3.21 billion SME, up 12.2 percent for the month and 7.2 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.04 billion SME were up 5.2 percent from March and 3.4 percent from a year before.
Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 21.7 billion SME, up 5.9 percent from the previous year, as textile imports gained 6.9 percent to 12.8 billion SME and apparel imports rose 4.3 percent to 8.85 billion SME.
For the year ending in April imports were 69.8 billion SME, up 6.2 percent from a year earlier, as textile imports increased 7.9 percent to 41.6 billion SME and apparel imports rose 3.9 percent to 28.2 billion SME.
