The U.S. Census Bureau is accepting through Feb. 11 comments on its proposal to revise the authorization for the Automated Export System used to collect U.S. export trade data to reflect a forthcoming proposed rule that would add two data elements: the original internal transaction number and the used electronics indicator. The original ITN field is an optional data element and is utilized if the filer creates an additional AES record for a shipment that was previously filed. The used electronics indicator is a conditional data element used to improve information on the quantity and destination of used electronics. Census is also proposing to revise this authorization to add or clarify language on timeframes for split shipments and the two options for filing electronic export information. These clarifications do not impose new reporting requirements.
