Effective Oct. 13, the Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has lifted its order prohibiting the importation of all tangerines, clementines, mandarins, and sweet oranges from Morocco.
This order was imposed Jan. 29, 2016, in response to the presence of live Mediterranean fruit fly larvae on cold-treated clementines from Morocco. However, in June the two sides signed a detailed work plan to mitigate pest risk that includes a requirement for all citrus consignments to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate with an additional declaration that the consignment was produced and prepared for export in accordance with the work plan. APHIS states that in September it conducted a site visit of production areas in Morocco and confirmed that the work plan requirements were being met.
