Background

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced April 18 its selection of four proposals to engage in further planning and development activities as part of the Donations Acceptance Program.

- The Anzalduas Bridge Board seeks to construct and donate northbound empty commercial inspection facilities and related infrastructure and technologies at the McAllen Anzalduas port of entry.

- Cameron County, Texas, seeks to construct and donate two to four northbound non-commercial inspection lanes and related infrastructure and technologies at the Veterans International Bridge POE.

- The City of Donna, Texas, seeks to construct and donate northbound commercial inspection facilities and related infrastructure and technologies at the Donna-Rio Bravo POE.

- The City of Laredo, Texas, seeks to construct and donate FAST lane relocation improvements at the World Trade Bridge POE.

In 2014 Congress authorized CBP and the General Services Administration to accept donations of real property, personal property (including monetary donations), and non-personal services from private sector and government entities for use in POE construction, alterations, operations, and maintenance activities. CBP has said that it faces a growing demand for facilities and renovations at aging POEs and that accepting donations provides an alternate method of financing modernization and construction projects. DAP proposals valued at $3 million or less may be submitted at any time.
