U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced the following new capabilities that will be deployed to the Automated Commercial Environment on April 18.
File Entries with Non-AMS Bills. CBP states that this capability will allow filers to submit ACE entries for processing without an associated carrier-transmitted bill of lading. This includes, for example, shipments for individuals arriving by airplane who require a formal or informal entry. Previously these entries could only be submitted in the Automated Commercial System.
CBP-Initiated Corrections. This capability will allow CBP port personnel, upon trade request, to edit entries previously submitted to ACE by the trade community (commonly known as “pen and ink” changes). Trade requests may be made in situations where the trade partner’s ABI system is down, preventing them from using the corrections and cancellations functionality. Trade members will request these types of changes via company letterhead or a screen print from the filer system with the changes highlighted by data field.
