Background

The value of monthly freight flows between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners totaled $96.6 billion in January, up 3.3 percent from December and 9.9 percent from a year earlier, according to Department of Transportation statistics.

The value of total U.S. trade with Canada edged up 0.4 percent from December to $48.9 billion but was up 8.8 percent from a year earlier. U.S. trade with Mexico was valued at $47.7 billion in January, up 6.5 percent from December and 11.0 percent from December 2016.
