The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative indicated in response to the release of the findings of Peru’s verification of three timber shipments to the U.S. that more work needs to be done to stop illegal logging in the South American nation. The recently concluded verification sought to determine whether three shipments of Peruvian timber that entered the U.S. in 2017 complied with all applicable laws, regulations, and other measures of Peru, as required under the forest sector governance provisions of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. Two of the shipments were found to be compliant with all relevant laws and regulations but a third shipment was found to be non-compliant.
