Background

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced that as of July 1 it will require all stakeholders who import any earthworm species into the U.S. to request and obtain a PPQ 526 pest permit and comply with rearing and shipping requirements. APHIS states that it will only issue import permits for earthworms for environmental release in the U.S. from countries that are free from foot-and-mouth disease.
