The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 6.16 billion square meter equivalents in April 2021, down 8.7 percent from March 2021 but up 53.7 percent from April 2020. Textile imports totaled 4.10 billion SME, down 3.5 percent for the month but up 46.4 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.07 billion SME were down 17.2 percent from March but up 70.6 percent from a year before.

Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 24.9 billion SME, up 33.6 percent from the previous year, as textile imports rose 41.2 percent to 16.2 billion SME and apparel imports rose 21.5 percent to 8.8 billion SME.
For the year ending in April, imports were 73.6 billion SME, up 10.4 percent from the previous year. Textile imports rose 20.5 percent to 48.9 billion SME but apparel imports fell 5.3 percent to 24.7 billion SME.
