Background

In the June 16, 2021, Customs Bulletin and Decisions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is proposing to reclassify network adapters used to connect computers to Wi-Fi networks as machines for the reception, conversion, and transmission or regeneration of voice, images, or other data under HTSUS 8517.62.0090 (duty-free) rather than as switching and routing apparatus under HTSUS 8517.62.0020 (duty-free). CBP explains that these items do not perform switching or routing themselves and instead rely on an external switching or routing device.

Ruling NY N301141 would be revoked to reflect this change. Comments on this proposal are due no later than July 16.
