Background

In the June 23 2021, Customs Bulletin and Decisions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reclassifying (1) natural amber stones as mineral substances under HTSUS 2530.90.80 (duty-free), (2) sanded down and buffed amber stones as worked mineral carving material under HTSUS 9602.00.50 (2.7 percent duty) (3) natural selenite stones as gypsum under HTSUS 2520.10.00 (duty-free), and (4) calcite geodes and aragonite specimens as unworked precious or semiprecious stones under HTSUS 7103.10.20 (duty-free). All of these items were previously classified as collectors’ pieces of mineralogical interest under HTSUS 9705.00.0090 (duty-free).

Rulings NY F86134, NY N004112, NY N004200, and NY N015557 will be revoked to reflect this change, effective with respect to goods entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after Aug. 22.
