The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 7.49 billion square meter equivalents in May 2021, up 21.6 percent from April 2021 and 111.5 percent from May 2020. Textile imports totaled 5.21 billion SME, up 27.1 percent for the month and 100.9 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.28 billion SME were up 10.1 percent from April and 140.6 percent from a year before.

Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 32.4 billion SME, up 43.9 percent from the previous year, as textile imports rose 48.8 percent to 21.4 billion SME and apparel imports rose 35.3 percent to 11.0 billion SME.
For the year ending in May, imports were 77.5 billion SME, up 20.3 percent from the previous year. Textile imports rose 29.8 percent to 51.5 billion SME and apparel imports gained 5.2 percent to 26.0 billion SME.
