China is making up some ground on its U.S. trade deal commitments

“While export growth in September remained relatively stable—up 1.9% over the month before—China’s imports are surging, leaping 15% over August. According to Bo Zhuang, chief China economist at TS Lombard, imports of pork and soy from the U.S. are driving the growth as China tries to uphold its commitment in phase 1 of the trade deal.”

“The law, which will apply to all companies in China, was passed Saturday by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and will take effect on Dec. 1. U.S., Britain upbeat as trade talks enter new round

“Lighthizer, who has named the UK trade talks one of his top priorities for 2020, has called for full access for U.S. agricultural products. The two sides are seen at odds, however, over tariffs including U.S. steel and aluminium duties imposed in 2018.”

U.S. signs trade and investment framework agreement with Fiji

“‘This TIFA will help us to build on our already expanding trade relationship with Fiji, which hit a record high in 2019. It is also our first TIFA with a developing state in the Pacific, and it provides the opportunity, in select circumstances, for other small Pacific Island states to join as observers in TIFA discussions, which helps to strengthen our economic commitment to the region and uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific,’ said Ambassador Lighthizer.”
