The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service is accepting comments through July 10 on a proposed rule that would streamline the importation process for table eggs, hatching eggs and inedible liquid egg by requiring that applications for inspection be submitted electronically.
Under this rule, each person importing any eggs as defined in the Egg Products Inspection Act (unless exempted) would have to make application for inspection on LPS Form 222, Import Request, to the chief of the Grading Branch at AMS headquarters or to the Grading Branch office nearest the port where the product is to be offered for importation. This application would be filed electronically via email or the International Trade Data System. Application would have to be made as far in advance as possible prior to the arrival of the product. Each application would be required to state the approximate date of product arrival in the U.S., the name of the ship or other carrier, the country from which the product was shipped, the destination, the quantity and class of product, and the point of first arrival in the U.S.
