Background

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has received an application from the City of Fort Lauderdale, grantee of FTZ 241, requesting authority to expand the service area of this zone, which currently includes Fort Lauderdale and a portion of Broward County, Florida, to include another portion of Broward County known as the Dania Cut. The application is also requesting to expand subzone 241A to include two additional sites. Comments on these requests are due no later than Oct. 10.

The FTZ Board has received from Brose North America Inc. a notification of proposed production activity for its facility within FTZ 98 in Vance, Ala., which is used for the production of seats, drives, and door frames for the automotive industry. Comments are due no later than Sept. 18. The applicant will be submitting a separate application for FTZ designation at this facility.

The FTZ Board has received from General Electric Transportation a notification of proposed production activity for its facilities within subzone 196B in Fort Worth and Haslet, Texas, and within subzones 247A and 247B in Erie and Grove City, Pa. GE Transportation already has authority to produce locomotives, drill equipment, off-highway vehicle wheels, inverters, and brake systems within these subzones, subject to restrictions on certain foreign-status components, and the current request would add finished products and foreign-status materials and components to the scope of authority related to the production of underground mining vehicles. Comments are due by Sept. 18.

The FTZ Board has received from Klaussner Home Furnishings a notification of proposed production activity for its facilities within subzone 230D in Asheboro and Candor, N.C. Klaussner currently has authority to conduct cut-and-sew activity using certain foreign micro-denier suede upholstery fabrics to produce upholstered furniture and related parts (upholstery cover sets) on a restricted basis and the current request would add foreign-status materials and components to the scope of authority. Comments are due by Sept. 18.
