The Foreign-Trade Zones Board has received from Suffolk Country, grantee of FTZ 52, a notification of proposed production activity for Advanced Optowave Corporation’s facility in Ronkonkoma, New York. This facility will be used for the production of diode pumped solid state laser systems, including the controller and laser. Comments on this notification are due no later than Jan. 2.

The FTZ Board has received from Salt Lake City Corporation, grantee of FTZ 30, an application requesting authority to expand its zone under the alternative site framework. The zone currently has a service area that includes Site 2 (55 acres) but if the application is approved it would be expanded to include Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties, as well as the cities of Brigham City, Corinne, Honeyville, Perry, Erda, Grantsville, Lake Point, Mills Junction, Rush Valley, Stansbury Park, Stockton, Terra, Tooele, Vernon, Heber City, Midway, Coalville, Deer Mountain, Echo, Francis, Henefer, Kamas, Kimball Junction, Oakley, Park City, Peoa, Samak, Silver Summit, Snyderville, Wanship, Woodland, and Mantua. The proposed service area is within and adjacent to the Salt Lake City U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry. Comments on this request may be submitted through Jan. 22, with any rebuttal comments due by Feb. 5.

The FTZ Board has approved production under zone procedures at the General Electric Transportation facilities within subzone 196B in Fort Worth and Haslet, Texas, and within subzones 247A and 247B in Erie and Grove City, Pa. GE Transportation already had authority to produce locomotives, drill equipment, off-highway vehicle wheels, inverters, and brake systems within these subzones, subject to restrictions on certain foreign-status components, and the new authority adds finished products and foreign-status materials and components to the scope of authority related to the production of underground mining vehicles.

The FTZ Board has approved production under zone procedures at the CornellCookson Inc. facility in Goodyear, Ariz. CornellCookson already had authority to produce rolling steel doors within site 11 of FTZ 277 and the new request adds foreign-status components to the scope of authority.
