The Federal Maritime Commission announced Sept. 20 that it has revised its process for reviewing maritime agreements in response to industry trends. Under the law, the FMC has 45 days to consider a filed agreement and either reject it or allow it to go into effect. However, the Commission states that it is receiving agreements of increased complexity or of a nature not previously seen. The FMC is therefore allowing for more input from staff and commissioners earlier in the review process to ensure it can continue to achieve the most thorough and timely analysis possible within the 45-day period.

The FMC is also requesting comments by Oct. 2 on an amendment clarifying the geographic scope of the Eastern Car Liner Ltd./Austral Asia Line Pte. Ltd. Space Charter Agreement.
