Background

The Bureau of Industry and Security has announced the following partially open meetings of three of its technical advisory committees in Washington, D.C.

- The Transportation and Related Equipment TAC, which advises BIS with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to transportation and related equipment or technology, will meet March 4. The open session of this meeting will include status reports by working group chairs.

- The Materials TAC, which advises BIS with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials and related technology, will meet March 5. The open session of this meeting will include a presentation on the NSF Workshop on the Global Movement and Tracking of Chemical Manufacturing Equipment, a report from the working groups on public domain issues, composites, biologicals, and pumps and valves, and a report on regime-based activities.

- The Materials Processing Equipment TAC, which advises BIS with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials processing equipment and related technology, will meet March 10. The open session of the upcoming meeting will include a discussion on the results and proposals from the last Wassenaar meeting and a report on proposed and recently issued changes to the Export Administration Regulations.

Each open session will be accessible via teleconference to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis. Requests to join the conference should be submitted to BIS no later than Feb. 25 (TRETAC), Feb. 26 (MTAC) or March 3 (MPETAC). In addition, a limited number of seats will be available at each public session, but reservations are not accepted.
