The International Trade Commission has adjusted the schedules for its investigations of the probable economic effect of proposed trade agreements with the European Union and the United Kingdom.
EU Investigation
- Feb. 13 deadline for post-hearing briefs and all other written submissions
- report due to USTR by April 23
UK Investigation
- Feb. 14 deadline for requests to appear at public hearing
- Feb. 19 deadline for prehearing briefs and statements
- March 6 public hearing
- March 8 deadline for post-hearing briefs and all other written submissions
- report due to USTR by June 12
In each of these investigations the ITC is examining the probable economic effect of providing duty-free treatment for imports of currently dutiable products on (a) industries in the U.S. producing like or directly competitive products and (b) consumers. USTR asked that the ITC’s analyses consider each article in HTSUS chapters 1 through 97 for which U.S. tariffs will remain, taking into account implementation of U.S. commitments in the WTO.
USTR also asked the ITC to assess the probable economic effects of eliminating tariffs on imports of specified agricultural products on (a) industries in the U.S. producing the products concerned and (b) the U.S. economy as a whole.
