President Trump has announced his intent to nominate Ian Steff, who has served as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for manufacturing since June 2017, as assistant secretary of commerce and director general of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service.

After serving as a staff member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Steff served as vice president of global policy and technology partnerships at the Semiconductor Industry Association and executive chairman of the U.S. Information Technology Office in Beijing. More recently he served as the state of Indiana’s first chief innovation officer and executive vice president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation,
