The State Department has issued a final rule that, effective May 29, rescinds the previous policy of denying exports of defense articles and defense services to Fiji. According to State, Fiji’s acting government followed through last September on its longstanding commitment to hold democratic elections, and a multinational observer group characterized the election as credible and having represented the will of the people of Fiji. State has therefore determined that is in the best interests of U.S. foreign policy, national security and human rights concerns to rescind the previous policy.
