The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 7.46 billion square meter equivalents in October 2020, up 7.5 percent from September and 19.5 percent from October 2019. Textile imports totaled 4.94 billion SME, up 10.3 percent for the month and 28.5 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.52 billion SME were up 2.4 percent from September and 5.2 percent from a year before.

Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 54.2 billion SME, down 8.5 percent from the previous year, as textile imports fell 0.9 percent to 35.0 billion SME and apparel imports plunged 19.6 percent to 19.2 billion SME.
For the year ending in October, imports were 64.7 billion SME, down 8.0 percent from a year earlier, as textile imports slipped 1.3 percent to 41.7 billion SME and apparel imports sank 18.1 percent to 23.0 billion SME.
