Background

The Drug Enforcement Administration has announced its intent to issue an order temporarily including the following synthetic opioid into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.

- 1-(1-(1-(4-bromophenyl)ethyl)piperidin-4-yl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-one (commonly known as brorphine), including its isomers, esters, ethers, salts, and salts of isomers, esters, and ethers whenever their existence is possible

Once issued, the temporary scheduling order will impose the CSA’s regulatory controls and administrative, civil, and criminal penalties applicable to the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, reverse distribution, possession, research, and conduct of instructional activities and chemical analysis of this substance. This order will be effective no earlier than Jan. 4 and remain in effect for two years, with a possible extension of one year.
