Background

The Drug Enforcement Administration has announced its intent to issue an order temporarily including the following synthetic opioid into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.

Once issued, the temporary scheduling order will impose the regulatory controls under the CSA on the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, reverse distribution, possession, research and conduct of instructional activities, and chemical analysis of this substance as well as the administrative, civil, and criminal penalties that apply to persons who fail to comply with such controls or otherwise violate the CSA with respect to these substances. This order will be effective no earlier than July 20 and remain in effect for two years, with a possible extension of one year.
