U.S. Customs and Border Protection has extended through Feb. 12 the period for public comments on the proposed extension of two information collections. CBP form 4457, Certificate of Registration for Personal Effects Taken Abroad, is used by travelers to register foreign-made items for which they do not have proof of prior possession in the U.S. to avoid duty assessment upon their return to the U.S. CBP form 4455, Certificate of Registration, is used for the registration, examination and supervised lading of commercial shipments of articles exported for repair, alteration or processing that will subsequently be returned to the U.S. either duty-free or at a reduced duty rate.
