Background

The Department of State’s Shipping Coordinating Committee will conduct an open meeting June 28 in Washington, D.C., to prepare for the 71st session of the International Maritime Organization's Marine Environment Protection Committee to be held July 3-7. Agenda items to be considered include air pollution and energy efficiency, further technical and operational measures for enhancing the energy efficiency of international shipping, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Members of the public who plan to attend this meeting should contact State no later than June 21.

The Committee will conduct a separate open meeting May 23 in Washington, D.C., to prepare for the 98th session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee to be held June 7-16. Agenda items to be considered include carriage of cargoes and containers and measures to enhance maritime security. Members of the public who plan to attend this meeting should contact State no later than May 15.
