The Federal Communications Commission is accepting comments through Aug. 31 on separate proposals to prohibit the importation and marketing of certain previously-authorized foreign-produced uncrewed aircraft systems (drones) and UAS critical components as well as certain communications and video surveillance equipment.
The FCC maintains a list of equipment and services that have been determined to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons (Covered List). Products on this list are effectively prohibited from being imported for use or sale in the U.S., although this prohibition does not cover the import, sale, or use of any existing listed items previously authorized by the FCC.
Drones, drone components, and communications and video surveillance equipment were added to the Covered List in December 2025. The FCC is now proposing to add specific items to these listings, including (1) foreign-produced drones and drone components and white-labeled devices produced by specified entities (see the FCC notice for details), and (2) communications and video equipment produced by one specified entity.
Separately, the FCC is proposing to extend the UAS import prohibition to any previously-authorized military-grade UAS or UAS critical component on the Covered List. See this notice for more details.
