Softwood Lumber. The U.S. will resume collecting remedial tariffs on more than $5 billion worth of softwood lumber imported from Canada after the International Trade Administration announced a preliminary affirmative countervailing duty determination. CV cash deposits at rates of 3.02 percent to 24.12 percent will be required for subject goods imported on or after the date this determination is published in the Federal Register, though this requirement will be retroactive 90 days for lumber from some producers and exporters due to the ITA’s preliminary affirmative critical circumstances determination. If the ITA’s preliminary antidumping duty determination on softwood lumber from Canada (due June 23) is also affirmative, AD cash deposits (some retroactive) will be required as well.
Sunset Reviews. The International Trade Commission has initiated sunset reviews of the following AD and/or CV duty orders. These reviews will result in either the revocation or continuation of these orders. Comments are due no later than May 31.
- tin- and chromium-coated steel sheet from Japan (AD)
- high-pressure steel cylinders from China (AD/CV)
- foundry coke from China (AD)
HEDP. The ITC has made final affirmative AD and CV injury determinations on 1-hydroxyethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid from China. As a result, the ITA will issue AD and CV duty orders on this product.
Aluminum Foil. The ITC has made preliminary affirmative AD and CV injury determinations on aluminum foil from China. As a result, the ITA will continue its AD and CV duty investigations, with preliminary determinations due by June 2 (CV) and Aug. 16 (AD).
Silicon Metal. The ITC has made preliminary affirmative AD injury determinations on silicon metal from Australia, Brazil, and Norway and preliminary affirmative CV injury determinations on such goods from Australia, Brazil, and Kazakhstan. As a result, the ITA will continue its AD and CV duty investigations, with preliminary determinations due by June 1 (CV) and Aug. 15 (AD).
