Effective Oct. 21, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is modifying its test of Automated Commercial Environment portal accounts to establish limited export functionality within the ACE portal account.

The Automated Export System, which was incorporated into ACE in April 2014, is the electronic method for the U.S. principal party in interest or its authorized agent to file export commodity and transportation information (known as electronic export information) directly with CBP and the Census Bureau. AES offers several options for transmitting this data, including AESDirect, an application supported by Census that allows USPPIs or their authorized agents to file EEI free of charge using a variety of electronic methods and provides access to export reports that compile the data from EEI filings associated with a user account.

Beginning no earlier than Oct. 1, the ACE exporter account portal will enable USPPIs or their authorized agents to transmit EEI via the AESDirect portal in ACE. This functionality will initially be available only to certain USPPIs that have been selected by Census, but after this brief initial phase CBP will announce the public availability of this functionality on its website. CBP notes that legacy AESDirect may continue to be used for filing EEI during the testing period but that once the ACE AESDirect portal is fully operational Census plans to discontinue the legacy AESDirect filing application.

CBP states that the ACE exporter portal account will also provide access to an export reports workspace that contains approximately 120 data objects that mirror the data previously available to exporters upon request from the Census Bureau. This workspace will contain three standard reports that provide transaction data for account users. Users will be able to modify and save these reports to create custom queries as well as build and save new reports using any desired combination of data objects available based on data elements in each report.
