The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 6.75 billion square meter equivalents in March 2021, up 16.2 percent from February 2021 and 61.1 percent from March 2020. Textile imports totaled 4.25 billion SME, up 13.6 percent for the month and 70.0 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.50 billion SME were up 20.8 percent from February and 48.0 percent from a year before.

Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 18.8 billion SME, up 28.1 percent from the previous year, as textile imports rose 39.5 percent to 12.1 billion SME and apparel imports rose 11.6 percent to 6.7 billion SME.
For the year ending in March, imports were 71.4 billion SME, up 5.2 percent from the previous year. Textile imports rose 16.1 percent to 47.6 billion SME but apparel imports fell 11.4 percent to 23.8 0 billion SME.
