Companies have until May 26 to submit recommendations for expanding the product coverage of the World Trade Organization’s Information Technology Agreement.
For 25 years the ITA has provided duty-free treatment for trade in specified information and communication technology goods. The original agreement covered about 180 products and was expanded in 2015 to include about 200 more. More than 80 WTO member countries are currently participating in the ITA, which means all 161 members have duty-free access to those markets for covered goods.
The U.S., the European Union, and others are now working to expand the agreement again. Product categories under consideration include flat panel displays, digital still image video cameras, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and materials, next-generation semiconductors, 3-D printers, energy efficient technologies, medical devices, advance telecommunications equipment, industrial robots, and drones.
