The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 6.82 billion square meter equivalents in August 2020, up 10.7 percent from July and 2.9 percent from August 2019. Textile imports totaled 4.40 billion SME, up 11.1 percent for the month and 14.1 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.43 billion SME were up 10.5 percent from July but down 12.7 percent from a year before.

Overall Imports. Total year-to-date imports were 39.8 billion SME, down 14.8 percent from the previous year, as textile imports fell 8.0 percent to 25.5 billion SME and apparel imports plunged 24.8 percent to 14.3 billion SME.
For the year ending in August, imports were 62.8 billion SME, down 11.3 percent from a year earlier, as textile imports fell 5.6 percent to 39.8 billion SME and apparel imports declined 19.8 percent to 23.0 billion SME.
