The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued an order imposing a $59,600 penalty against a Texas company to settle charges that it committed 17 violations of the anti-boycott provisions of the Export Administration Regulations. BIS alleged that this company (1) did not oppose a condition in letters of credit from customers in the United Arab Emirates requiring it to comply with the Israeli boycott list; (2) in connection with exports to Lebanon and the UAE, furnished information about business relationships with boycotted countries or blacklisted persons; and (3) in connection with exports to Bahrain, Lebanon, Libya, and the UAE, failed to report the receipt of requests to engage in a restrictive trade practice or foreign boycott against a country friendly to the U.S.
If the company does not pay the civil penalty on time BIS may deny all of its export privileges for one year.
