The Department of Energy has announced civil penalties of $8,000 each against six companies that failed to certify that the products they were distributing meet the applicable energy or water conservation standards. These products include commercial refrigeration equipment, air conditioners and heat pumps, faucets and showerheads, and pool heaters. Each company must also submit the required certification reports.
DOE states that each company that imports or domestically produces covered products or equipment must submit a report certifying that its products or equipment comply with applicable federal energy and water conservation standards. DOE relies on self-certification in concert with its own testing to ensure that manufacturers accurately represent the compliance of their products and equipment.
