Textile and Apparel Imports Rise as Shipments from Southeast Asia Surge

The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend, and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 5.61 billion square meter equivalents in January, up 12.4 percent from December and 2.6 percent from January 2017. Textile imports totaled 3.19 billion SME, up 3.6 percent for the month and 4.5 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.42 billion SME were up 27.9 percent from December and 0.2 percent from a year before.
