Export Agency Assistant Chief Named
President Trump announced May 19 his intent to nominate Richard Ashooh to be assistant secretary of commerce for export administration. Ashooh currently serves as the director of economic partnerships at the University System of New Hampshire and previously served as executive director of the Warren Rudman Center at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Prior to his work in higher education he worked for more than two decades as a senior executive in the aerospace industry, where according to a White House statement “his primary focus was ensuring the success of programs that protect United States and allied warfighters, particularly in the electronic warfare space.” He has also held senior positions in corporate strategy, homeland security, and public affairs.
The president’s nomination of Mira Ricardel to serve as under secretary of commerce for export administration (where she would serve one level above Ashooh as head of the Bureau of Industry and Security if both are confirmed) was considered May 16 by the Senate Banking Committee.
