Raw Cane Sugar TRQ for FY 2017 Increased

Tuesday, July 25, 2017
Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

Effective July 25, the Department of Agriculture is increasing the fiscal year 2017 raw cane sugar tariff-rate quota by 244,690 metric tons raw value to a total of 1,361,855 MTRV. USDA is also allowing all raw cane sugar entering the U.S. under the FY 2017 TRQ to enter through Oct. 31, a month later than the usual last entry date.

These steps are being taken after a determination that additional supplies of raw cane sugar are required in the U.S. market. USDA states that it will closely monitor stocks, consumption, imports, and all sugar market and program variables on an ongoing basis and may make further program adjustments during FY 2017 if needed.

Raw cane sugar under this TRQ must be accompanied by a certificate for quota eligibility. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative will allocate the TRQ increase among supplying countries and customs areas.
