Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is accepting comments through Jan. 8 on the proposed revision of form ATF F 9 (5320.9), Application and Permit for Permanent Exportation of Firearms. This form is typically used by a federal firearms licensee who has paid the special (occupational) tax to import, deal, or manufacture National Firearms Act firearms to seek approval to permanently export NFA firearms registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. Once authorization has been granted, one copy of the form is retained by ATF and the remaining copies are returned to the exporter to establish that the exportation took place and claim relief from liability for the transfer tax.
