Fresh Mango from Vietnam Allowed Under USDA Proposal
The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is proposing to allow imports of fresh mango fruit from Vietnam into the continental U.S. As a condition of entry, such fruit would be subject to a systems approach that would include orchard requirements, irradiation treatment and port of entry inspection. The fruit would also have to be imported in commercial consignments and accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization of Vietnam with an additional declaration stating that the consignment was inspected and found free of the fungus Macrophoma mangiferae and mango black spot, Xanthomonas campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae. Comments on this proposed rule are due no later than Oct. 3.
