Imports and Exports of Synthetic Cannabinoid to be Restricted
The Drug Enforcement Administration has announced its intent to issue an order temporarily including the synthetic opioid methyl 2-(1-(4-fluorobenzyl)-1H-indazole-3-carboxamido)-3-methylbutanoate into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. Available data and information indicate that this substance has a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the U.S., and a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision.
The temporary scheduling order will impose the administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions and regulatory controls applicable to schedule I substances under the CSA on the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, possession, and research of, and conduct of instructional activities with, this substance. It will be effective on the date it is published in the Federal Register, which will take place no sooner than Oct. 11, and will remain in effect for two years, with a possible extension of one year.
