Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg Trade Report

The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service has issued an interim rule relaxing the minimum grade requirement for kiwifruit imported into the U.S. that are shipped to the fresh market by increasing the tolerance of kiwifruit that is “badly misshapen” from 7% to 16%. This change is expected to reduce the incidence of product that fails to meet the minimum grade requirement of KAC No. 1, thus helping to reduce costs and facilitate the importation of kiwifruit. This rule will be effective July 25 and comments received by Sept. 13 will be considered prior to the issuance of a final rule.
