Background

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service reports that beginning in late September importers will be able to apply for and receive fresh fruit and vegetable import permits (PPQ 587) through APHIS’s new eFile online permitting system.

Until that time APHIS will continue issuing fresh fruit and vegetable import permits through ePermits. All such permits issued before the transition to APHIS eFile will be valid until their expiration date and do not need to be transferred to APHIS eFile.

All other PPQ 587 applications (e.g., frozen fruits and vegetables, seeds not for planting, plants for planting, etc.) will remain in ePermits for the foreseeable future.
